N.J. Rep. Donald Payne Dies in Newark




BREAKING NEWS - Representative Donald M. Payne Jr., a Democrat from Newark who succeeded his father, New Jersey's first Black member of Congress, died on Wednesday in Newark in the midst of his sixth term on Capitol Hill. He was 65. Payne lived in Newark with his wife, Beatrice. They were the parents of triplets. On April 6, 2024, Payne was hospitalized at Newark Beth Israel Medical Center following a "cardiac episode" that his office said was a complication of diabetes. He remained unconscious and on a ventilator until his death on April 24, Payne Jr. was re-elected five times prior to his death in office in 2024
